potluckmedia

As a young child growing up in Virginia, I remember gathering with my family to watch the evening news and now as an adult I can firmly tell you that the way the news was presented then is quite different than today’s broadcasts. Yes we still hear about wars and rumors of war both here and abroad; yes we still hear the report of the daily rituals of our political leaders and so forth; yes they still invoke a few humorous stories to draw a tear or laugh but back in the day, the news was presented more truthfully and with a higher moral standard.  Today when I watch the evening news or read a newspaper, I hear and see words that no longer tell the exact truth, instead truth is replaced with the endorsement of a product or it is scared by pandering to a politician or political party; furthermore, broadcasters today care little about facts but more about entertainment and they use circus like theatrics in order to stimulate our minds.   As I watch their carnival like activities I am reminded of a flimflam man who uses his charm to deceive his victim and yet like so many I continue to watch and listen to their nightly display; why you may ask, because beneath their sham, there is some truth to hear and see; there is still some worth in the topics they discuss. I now ask this one question, do the media influence your ideas and actions? Of course they do, because even though we know they misuse facts; even though they twist the truth, we ourselves hold so much of their ideas in our own hearts and with one word of parallel thoughts we say yes to their speeches and are amazed at their intellectual fortitude.  In conclusion I would like to say that not all media is biased; not all media twist the truth to promote themselves and others, but so many do; so many use a potluck theory of commentating; so many throw anything into the pot to see if any one bites and I am sad to say we all do at times.
